Home Energy Assistance and Weatherization

Emergency Crisis Intervention

Through a variety of programs, assistance with fuel and utilities may be available to low-income households unable to make required payments.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Eligible low-income households receive benefits to assist with paying heating bills. A one-time benefit may be available to eligible households with a medical need for cooling. The program is not available during the summer months.

Home Energy Assistance applications are available on the Internet at:
www.energyassistance.nj.gov

Households eligible for Home Energy Assistance may also receive emergency help with the purchase of fuel or utilities during the Home Energy season.

New Jersey Shares

Assistance with Natural Gas and Electric costs may be available to households that are ineligible for LIHEAP but unable to make required payments. Information is available on the Internet at www.njshares.org. Application is by appointment only.

Universal Service Fund

Monthly discounts on utility bills are available to eligible low-income households who spend more than a specified percentage of their household income for natural gas or electric service. Households may apply year round.

Weatherization

Low Income households may receive financial and educational assistance with energy conservation. Residences are evaluated to determine ways to reduce the cost and consumption of energy.
